About John P. Hale, REALTOR, Baldus Real Estate, Inc.

Curriculum Vitae – John P. Hale

John P. Hale was born in Baltimore on August 29, 1953, grew up in rural Maryland and enjoyed the combination of small town and country lifestyles that Maryland has to offer.  He graduated from Brunswick High School and completed undergraduate courses at Frederick Community College.  He also attended Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and completed additional studies at Monroe Community College in Michigan.

Mr. Hale has had a diverse employment history that began in the mid 1970’s and has included job descriptions of:  Power Plant Operator at a coal burning facility with Potomac Electric Power Company, Division Manager for Laminar Flow Technology with Health Physics Services, Inc., Operations Manager at Neutron Products, Inc. (a manufacturer of radioactive Cobalt-60 sources), Senior Health Physics Technician under contract to various nuclear power plants during refueling and maintenance outages including Dresden, Connecticut Yankee, Hatch, Rancho Seco, San Onofre, Pilgrim, Vermont Yankee, McGuire, and on the accident recovery team at Three Mile Island.  That experience culminated in a position with Detroit Edison at their Fermi II nuclear station as the Respiratory Protection Program Supervisor to develop and implement that program for their startup.

With all that experience accumulated, Hale then began consulting as Director of Respirator Programs with Darell Bevis Associates in Chantilly, Virginia and for Radiation Safety Associates in Hebron, Connecticut through the end of the 1980’s.  In August of 1989 he began his own consulting firm called Respirator Support Services offering training, technical services, and consulting on a nationwide basis to all users of occupational respiratory protection equipment with a heavy emphasis on regulatory compliance and realistic and effective respirator programs.

Continuing education was always a priority during John’s safety career, as well as active involvement in related professional societies and activities.  He wrote and published a leading newsletter for the industry, Respiratory Protection Update, on a quarterly basis for twelve years.  Service on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Respiratory Protection, active membership in the American Industrial Hygiene Association, service on the American National Standards Institute standard Z88.2, Practices for Respiratory Protection and, chairman of yet another consensus document, ANSI Z88.10, Respirator Fit Test Methods, rounded out his health and safety career.

Through more than thirty years of marriage, raising a wonderful daughter and seeing her through college, and constantly traveling throughout the United States for more than three decades on business and for pleasure, it was time for a change.  Relocation to a friendlier climate, downsizing, staying in one place for more than a week at a time, and taking the first steps toward a gradual retirement over the next fifteen years became the game plan.  Having grown to love the Southwest over the years, the decision was easy.  Tucson, Arizona was at the top of the list for the place to start.

Upon moving to Tucson at the turn of the century, and after a short rest for a few months and a lot of soul searching, John began an entirely new career as a licensed REALTOR® with Long Realty Company on November 27, 2000.  A desire to continue to help people, in another important way, was a big part of the motivation for that decision.  After the challenge and struggle with all of the changes in lifestyle and workplace experienced, the next four years brought a modest level of success, qualifying for Long’s President Club every year from 2002 through 2005.  In 2003 – as soon as allowed by law – John obtained his Broker’s license and became an Associate Broker with Long and also served as their Contract Administrator for their Northwest Branch.

Accomplishments in real estate practice earned over the years have included numerous professional designations and certifications: Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR), At Home With Diversity (AHWD), Accredited Sellers Representative (ASR), Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE), Certified Risk Management Specialist (CRMS), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Certified Sellers Representative (CSR), Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA), Graduate of the REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Mortgage Real Estate Professional (MREP), and Military Relocation Professional (MRP).

Naturally, along with the status of REALTOR®, Mr. Hale was a member of the National, State, and Tucson Association of REALTORS®.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Association of REALTORS® (TAR) 2008-2009.  He was also actively involved with the TAR Risk Reduction Committee, and their Education Committee.  He was awarded their 2009 Outstanding Service Award.  John also represented the TAR Board of Directors by serving as an appointed member of Tucson’s Regional Planning Advisory Committee.  Mr. Hale is also past Chairman of the Marana Mayor & Council’s Business Advisory Committee, and past President of the Monterey Pointe Homeowners Association in OMNI Tucson National Resort where he resided.

In the spring of 2006, John created his own real estate brokerage called Brokers Only Realty in an attempt to raise the bar on the qualifications necessary to be a practitioner in the business.  Two years later, because of some unforeseen confusion on the part of the public about what the name “Brokers Only” meant, he decided to change the name of the brokerage to Touchstone Residential Realty, Inc.

Though they loved living in Tucson, in the fall of 2012, John and his wife decided to move back to Maryland (to be closer to their daughter who had just relocated there) and settled in Southern Maryland.  He has become licensed in Maryland and is now affiliated with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Westminster, Maryland, offering his services for residential, land, and commercial real estate.

When asked about his approach to the business of real estate, John offers this perspective:

“Professionally, I pledge to be everything to my clients that I would want a real estate agent to be for me. I will always provide the best service that I can, honestly, and without pressuring anyone. I have worked hard to build a reputation for being different than most.”                                                               2/17
