PROFESSIONAL REAL ESTATE DESIGNATIONS GRI - GRADUATE REALTOR® INSTITUTE WHAT DOES “GRI” STAND FOR – AND WHY INSIST ON USING AN AGENT THAT HAS EARNED THAT DESIGNATION? Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) Designees have made the commitment to provide a high level of professional services to their clients. This distinction is only awarded after 90 hours of classroom instruction and examination, covering subjects such as contract law, professional standards, sales and marketing, finance, risk reduction, and service. The GRI Designation was established by the Education Committee of the National Association of REALTORS and approved by the NAR Board of Directors on February 12, 1974. Yet, only about 22% of REALTORS® nationwide have been awarded the GRI designation. Only about half that ratio - or 11% are GRIs in Tucson.
